1a Domenica di Quaresima

Il vangelo ci chiede di praticare la vigilanza sempre e dappertutto. Senza trascurare le piccole cose, il monaco sorveglia anzitutto i suoi pensieri e non teme l’assalto delle tentazioni – di cui la più pesante è l’accidia –  perché a guidarlo è colui che regna sopra di tutti.

Noi possiamo tenere a freno le passioni solo se siamo "tenuti" dallo Spirito.

2a Domenica di Quaresima

Per giungere all’unione con Dio occorre che intelligenza e volontà siano purificate: la cella del monaco è infatti paragonabile alla biblica fornace di Babiloni. Ma chi si mette risolutamente in cammino verso la scoperta della bellezza divina, otterrà la conoscenza di colui che è l’Immutabile (92). Dio è fuoco e ci trasfigura.

3a Domenica di Quaresima

Nell’opera della nostra purificazione, la parte che spetta all’uomo è imitare l’umiltà di Cristo e attendere dal Padre la guarigione delle proprie ferite, aderendo alla volontà divina senza ripiegamenti sull’io.
Invochiamo il nome di Gesù e la sua misericordia ci purificherà, rimettendoci i peccati.
Attingiamo alla fonte inesauribile della Parola divina e, a suo tempo, un’acqua viva zampillerà dal nostro cuore.

4a Domenica di Quaresima

L’impegno nell’amore e nella verità è il fulcro del combattimento per giungere alla libertà spirituale. Impugnando le armi dell’umiltà, della compunzione e della preghiera, riusciamo a superare il torpore e lo scoraggiamento. Ma sarà soprattutto la speranza in Dio a trionfare su ogni forma di dissipazione. Alla lotta segue immancabilmente la pace che ci rende figli dell’Altissimo.

5a Domenica di Quaresima – Domenica di Passione

L’invito a partecipare ai dolori di Cristo si fa più incalzante. Occorre che manifestiamo il nostro amore nel portare la croce con Ges. Lo sguardo si fissa sul Dio che si è annientato fino alla morte per redimerci: la misericordia divina e indicibile. La liturgia tocca il vertice nel celebrare il mistero della redenzione.

6a Domenica di Quaresima – Domenica delle Palme

Il Figlio di Dio è disceso sulla terra per compassione del genere umano. Sì, ha patito le nostre sofferenze ancor prima di aver sofferto la croce, prima di aver preso la nostra carne. Poiché se non avesse patito, non sarebbe venuto a dividere con noi la vita umana. Prima egli ha patito, poi è disceso.
Ma quale è questa passione della quale ha sofferto per noi? È la passione dell’amore. E il Padre stesso, il Dio dell’universo, lento all’ira e grande nell’amore (Sal 102,8) non soffre forse in qualche modo? O forse tu ignori che quando si occupa delle cose umane, egli soffre una passione umana? Egli soffre una passione d’amore.

1^st Sunday in Lent

The Gospel bids us always to practise vigilance everywhere. Without neglecting small things, the monk should above all guard his thoughts and not fear at all the attacks that come from temptation – the biggest of all being sloth, idleness – because the one who is leading him is He Who reigns over all.

We can keep a brake on our passions only if we are "held" by the Spirit.

2^nd Sunday in Lent

To reach union with God it is necessary that mind and will are purifie: the monk’s cell is actually cimparable to the oven in Babylon we find in the Bible. Yet whoever sets off resolutely on the path towards the discovery of divine beauty, will achieve a state of awareness of Him Who is Immutable. God is fire and He transforms us.

3^rd Sunday in Lent

In the work done for our purification, our part is to imitate Christ’s humility and to wait for the Father’s healing of our wounds, while concurring with the divine will and not falling back on our ego. We call the name of Jesus and his mercy will purify us, absolving our sin. We draw water from the inexhaustible fount of the Word of God and, in good time, living water will gush out of our heart.

4^th Sunday in Lent

Commitment in love and truth is the axis of the struggle to reach spiritual freedom. Grasping the arms of humility, compunction and prayer, we shall succeed in overcoming sluggishness and discouragement. Yet it will above all be the hope in God to triumph over all forms of scattering. Then, after the struggle, there will invariably follow that peace which will render us sons of the Most High.

5^th Sunday in Lent – Passion Sunday

The invitation to participate in the sufferings of Christ becomes ever more pressing. It is necessary that we show our love in carrying the cross together with Jesus. Our eyes are to be transfixed on God Who has annihilated Himself to the extent of death to redeem us: divine mercy is inexpressible. The liturgy reaches its peak in celebrating the mystery of redemption.

6^th Sunday in Lent – Palm Sunday

The Son of God has come down to earth in compassion for humanity. Indeed, he bore our sufferings much before he suffered on the cross, before taking on our flesh. For had he not suffered, he would not have come to share with us human life. First he suffered, then he came down.

However, what is this passion which he has suffered for us? It is the passion of love. And does not the Father Himself, God of the universe, slow to anger and great in love (Ps. 102, 8) perhaps suffer in some way? Or perhaps you ignore that in dealing with human affairs, He suffers a human passion? He suffers a passion of love.
